Sanyo Oceania has commenced a recall of more than 9,000 Convection Grill Microwave Ovens that are at risk of causing severe electric shocks to its users.

The 9,280 affected Sanyo microwaves (EM-C8787B) were sold at Target stores nationally from July 2010 to the first half of January 2012.

According to a statement from Sanyo, the microwaves are at risk due to, “printed circuit boards within the internal control panel having electrical contact with the small buttons on the external control panel.”

Sanyo is advising owners of the affected model to stop using the microwave ovens immediately and unplug the power cord.

Sanyo is recalling the products and offering owners a refund.

“Sanyo Oceania would like to express our sincerest apologies for any inconvenience that may have been caused to the customers concerned,” the company said in a statement.

Customers are advised to call 1800-06-3747 (toll free) for any inquiries, and to arrange a refund.
