Industry veteran David Hargreaves has resigned from his position as Sony’s general manager of consumer field sales after 26 years with the company. Hargreaves’ departure has triggered a review of Sony’s sales team.

Sony Australia managing director Carl Rose said Hargreaves’ final day with the company will be March 2, 2012.

“After 26 years of dedicated service, David Hargreaves our general manager of consumer field sales, has made the difficult decision to leave Sony Australia,” said Rose in a statement.

“I’d like to acknowledge David’s passion for both the consumer electronics industry and for Australian retail – he has approached our business with dedication, enthusiasm and commitment,” he said.

Staff changes at Sony are expected to follow.

“As a result of David’s decision, Sony will be reviewing the structure of the sales team, taking into consideration the changing nature of the Australian retail landscape,” Rose added.
