The Woolworths-Lowes hardware joint venture, John Danks & Son, has acquired three-store independent chain G Gay & Co.

The Victorian hardware chain includes two Home Timber and Hardware outlets, located in Ballarat and Wendouree, Victoria, and a third business known as Ballarat Building Supplies.

Danks is expected to make offers to retain all existing employees at G Gay & Co, including support staff and current management. The deal is subject to final closing conditions.

“The G Gay & Co acquisition is a terrific opportunity to further develop our retail store network,” commented Home Timber and Hardware Group GM, Mark Burrowes.

Burrowes said the well-known Gays brand would help build the chain’s strong reputation in servicing the hardware needs of Ballarat customers.

“As we have stated before, we intend to play an active role in the hardware and home improvement category, and through our combined Retail and Wholesale network we will continue to deliver the best possible value, choice and service," he added.
