There are unconfirmed reports that Pioneer Electronics Australia is closing its head office in Melbourne and www.connectedaustralia.com understands the company is going to be distributing its products through agencies.

When contacted this morning, Pioneer Australia marketing communications and PR manager, Michael Broadhurst would neither confirm nor deny this industry speculation. "There is absolutely no confirmation that that will happen, we are awaiting a global announcement this evening, we can't comment on this yet because being a shareholding company we have to wait until the announcement which will be out tomorrow."

"We are aware that there are rumours circulating in the industry, however Pioneer will officially comment later this evening regarding its midterm strategies," he added.

Pioneer's plasma woes
The company is reportedly pulling out of the flat panel TV market.  Connected reported earlier this year on Pioneer's forced price increase on its home entertainment product range on the back of the depreciation of the Australia dollar against overseas currencies. The price increases range between 5% to 15%.
