New Zealand whitegoods giant Fisher and Paykel is experiencing a wave of negativity from US customers who've taken to consumer website www.consumeraffairs.com to vent their frustration with many of the company's products, as well as its customer service.
The website allows for unimpressed consumers to fill out "complaint forms," which are published online. The F&P complaints list extends over 16 pages, and includes issues such as faulty dishwashers, dryers burning clothes, inadequate customer service and extended waits for replacement parts.
"I bought two side by side ovens, microwave, cooktop, dishdrawer and an outside grill. Thank God I didn't buy a Fisher & Paykel refrigerator. I'll start with the microwave. The digital clock doesn't work, the paint inside the microwave is peeling off and the metal is rusting, there are big rust spots throughout the oven ... one oven takes forever to heat up. The cooktop, when you light one of the burners it doesn't stop clicking. The dishdrawers the racks are broken and it doesn't do a good job of cleaning the dishes," Irene from New Jersey reported.
Many of the complaints were of a similar nature, and a huge number referred to the fact that the company's customer service was "appalling".
"It took days for them to get anyone in our area approved to repair the dishwasher. Unfortunately when the repairman came out the parts were computer modules on both drawers. It took weeks for the repair parts to be shipped from New Zealand ," Deanna from Utah claims.
Website, www.consumersearch.com undertook a number of US surveys that found a quarter if F&P dishwashers require repairs.
"In one survey, Fisher and Paykel models had the highest repair rate of any dishwasher brand," the website states.
