Facebook_gift_card.jpgAmerican consumers are now able to purchase Facebook gift cards from Target, which give them the ability to buy applications and other add-ons for social games played on the hugely popular social networking site.

According to Business Week, the retailer began selling the gift cards on Sunday September 5, making it the first bricks-and-mortar store to stock the cards.
 

"With social gaming becoming increasingly popular, Facebook Credits gift cards provide an easy and convenient option for Target guests to purchase virtual goods," Target senior vice-president of merchandising Mark Schindele said.
 

Facebook social games are able to be played without charge, but the gift cards allow users to buy applications and other items that are used within the social games.

The Facebook gift cards are be sold in increments of $15, $25 and $50. They’re accepted by games such as Zynga's FarmVille and Mafia Wars; as well as CrowdStar's Happy Aquarium and Playdom's City of Wonder.
