Future Shop’s Moe Amirie said that even in an uncertain economy, Canadians want exciting gifts.
While the US celebrates the season of Thanksgiving and hopes that Black Friday will keep the cash registers singing, their Canadian neighbours are planning to buy more electronics.

Future Shop, Canada's leading consumer electronics retailer and e-tailer, has released a survey which reveals that men will spend more on electronics, and that HDTVs remain on the top of Canadians' holiday wish lists.

CE top of the list
The survey commissioned by Future Shop and conducted by Leger Marketing shows that nine out of 10 Canadians (90%) would put consumer electronics on their holiday gift wish lists.

According to Future Shop senior vice president, Moe Amirie, "We've been a part of providing Canadians the hottest gifts for the past 26 years and have become a part of many families' holiday traditions. Even in an uncertain economy, we know Canadians want exciting gifts and with 25 million Canadians shopping at their local Future Shop over the next six weeks, we are positioned to offer the best selection of products and prices to meet their budgets."

Men planning to spend more on tech gadgets than women
Canadians surveyed said they are planning to spend an average of $US381 on electronic gifts for others. Men also plan to spend more on consumer electronics than women, $US342 to $US216.

The three most popular items Canadians said they would like to receive as a holiday gift in order are:

• a flat-screen television (31%)
• laptop or desktop computer (19%)
• GPS navigation system (14%)

Other desired gifts include: digital cameras, kitchen appliances, mp3 players, video gaming consoles, and Blu-ray disc players.
