Microsoft today announced price cuts for its Xbox 360 video game and entertainment systems but they are not in response to Sony Australia’s bonus PS3 offer that launched yesterday.

Xbox group product marketing manager, Australia and New Zealand, Jeremy Hinton, told www.connectedaustralia, that the price reduction had been planned for some time and the motive was primarily to pass on savings to consumers.

He said July was an important sales time for the company with Christmas lay-bys coming into the picture/

“Today’s announcement demonstrates our commitment to offer savings to consumers at every opportunity,” he said.

The new recommended prices represent a saving of $50 on the Arcade model and $80 on the Pro and Elite models.

The Xbox 360 Arcade is now priced at $349.00 RRP, the Pro is $499 RRP and the Elite $649.

As at 11.30am today, just over 1000 PS3s had been redeemed according to Sony’s online PS3 meter. As previously reported by Connected, Sony is giving away a total of 35,000 PS3s with every purchase of a HD BRAVIA LCD.
